Need something to help you battle that boredom? Chronic Haze has got your back, with five more movies to watch while you’re high!
The picks on this list range from the funny to the meaningful and mind-bending. You’ll be sure to have something to recommend to others after watching these.
Without further ado, here are five more movies to watch high:
Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny (2006)
We’ll start with a lighter one. Tenacious D is the (untrue) story of a real band, formed by actor Jack Black and his friend Kyle Gass. The two, deciding they want to become a famous rock band, set out on a quest to find a legendary guitar pick made from Satan’s tooth.
Despite not performing well critically, the movie has gained a huge cult following due to its ridiculous humour and iconic music. There are weed jokes aplenty, as well as a scene with Jack Black meeting Bigfoot in the woods after trying some strange mushrooms. It’s good, light fun.
Being John Malkovich (1999)
For those looking for something a little more cerebral, check out Being John Malkovich. The film stars John Cusack as a struggling puppeteer who finds a secret doorway that allows him to inhabit the body of real-life actor John Malkovich. Who’s John Malkovich, you ask? Don’t worry, the film’s characters don’t know either.
With a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, Being John Malkovich has been noted for its humour and originality. It’s a dark comedy with an existential twist, making it perfect for an after-sesh viewing. Might I suggest it after some Durban Poison?
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)
One of Johnny Depp’s most memorable movies. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas stars Depp as the iconic Raoul Duke, alongside his lawyer played by Benecio del Toro. The two head to Vegas for journalistic purposes, which soon devolve into a drug-fueled frenzy.
This one’s another cult classic that wasn’t loved by critics. With an off-the-walls plot that goes nowhere you’d expect, Fear and Loathing is an experience. The film is well-known for its acid scene, where Duke trips balls in a hotel lobby. Strap yourself in for this one.
Fight Club (1999)
One of my personal favourites, Fight Club is a movie that needs no introduction. It’s probably on every stoner’s list, but there’s a reason for that. Starring Edward Norton and Brad Pitt at their best, the movie still holds up today as a landmark in screenwriting and cinematography.
What may surprise you is that this cult classic only has a 79% on Rotten Tomatoes. But don’t let that deter you. Fight Club is a film that will impress on multiple fronts. It’s both a psychological and a visceral experience, like a hybrid strain.
Sorry to Bother You (2018)
Rounding off our list, we have Sorry to Bother You. This surreal dark comedy follows a black man who begins working as a telemarketer, where he starts to find success when using a “white accent.” The film stars Lakeith Stanfield and features others like Steven Yeun and Danny Glover.
With its tight script and eye-catching setpieces, this movie should be at the top of your list. It balances political satire with absurdist comedy, making for something both intellectual and entertaining. And those are the best types of movies to watch when you’re high.
