Synopsis: What happens when a Christmas eve tradition amongst three best friends hits its last stride? Determined to end their decade long tradition with a bang, buddies Ethan (Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Isaac (Seth Rogen) and Chris (Anthony Mackie) plan a night in search of the Nutcracker Ball, the Holy Grail of Christmas parties in New York City. The debauchery eventually leaves a trail of destruction and it’s really really fun to watch.

The Holiday (2006)

Synopsis: Two unlucky in love women decide to house swap for the Holidays, one heads to an LA mansion, the other to a quaint cottage in the Cotswolds. SPOILER ALERT: they both find love. It’s a classic romantic comedy but it’s also truly wholesome entertainment. Watch for the beautiful set design and if you really just want to unwind with some easygoing movie viewing.

Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone (2001)

Synopsis: Okay technically not a Holiday movie but the literal magic and wonder that goes hand in hand with a kid finding out he’s a wizard and gets to go to a school (set in a castle no less) for wizards and witches is just as good as any holiday movie. If you’ve also never seen or read the Harry Potter books (even if you have) it’s a trip to see this universe, come to life and with the right strain, you’ll feel just like you’re inside Hogwarts itself.

Elf (2003)

Synopsis: 6’3 Buddy (Will Ferrell) has been raised in the North Pole among Santa’s elves and travels to New York – with nothing but the elf clothing on his back – to search for his real father. His dad Walter Hobbs (James Caan) is more Grinch than he his Santa but their attempt to navigate a relationship as father and son, coupled with Buddy’s awe and discovery of New York City is really some of the best comedic acting from Ferrell to date.
